Samburu National Reserve is situated at the south-eastern corner of Samburu District in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya. It is bordered to the south by Ewaso Nyiro River, which separates it from the Buffalo Springs National Reserve. A combination of these game reserves, Samburu National and Buffalo Springs reserves, Lake Nakuru National Park and Masai Mara National Reserve gives a traveller an assurance of seeing almost if not all wildlife and birds species possibly found in these parks.

Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Nairobi - Masai Mara

    Leave Nairobi for Masai Mara Game Reserve. Picnic lunch on the way. Set up camp and later proceed for a game drive in search of black manned lions, elephants, leopards, cheetah, buffaloes and other plain game. Return to the campsite for dinner and overnight camping at Oldarpoi campsite Sekenani

  • Day 2

    Masai Mara

    A full day spent game viewing a cross the rich, tree studded grassland and rolling hills. The famous Mara is renowned for its great herds of plain game, black-maned lions, leopard and cheetah but also contains numerous elephant and virtually every type of wildlife to be found in Kenya.

  • Day 3

    Masai Mara

    After breakfast depart for morning game drive and return to the camp in time for lunch. This morning an optional Air Balloon Safari is possible and payable directly locally. Afternoon nature walk and a visit to a nearby Masaai village (Manyatta), return to the campsite for dinner and overnight.

  • Day 4

    Masai Mara - Lake Nakuru

    Breakfast then leave Masai Mara for Lake Nakuru National Park, with picnic lunch stop. Game drive in Nakuru on the way to the campsite. Dinner and overnight camping inside the park overlooking a waterfalls.

  • Day 5

    Lake Nakuru - Samburu

    Early breakfast thereafter morning game drive as you leave Lake Nakuru Park to Samburu National Reserve. Quite a scenic route with a stopover at Nyahururu Waterfalls and picnic lunch. Dinner and overnight camping in the vicinity.

  • Day 6

    Samburu and Buffalo Springs Game Reserves

    Morning and afternoon game drives to explore these reserves hosting a great variety of wildlife and birdlife. And crown your trip with a visit to a Samburu village to experience their culture.

  • Day 7

    Samburu - Nairobi

    After breakfast leave Samburu for Nanyuki at the base of Mount Kenya. Drop off clients who want to stay behind to climb Mt. Kenya after lunch and proceed to Nairobi.
